Herbert's Battalion, Arizona CavalryWelcome to Herbert's Battalion Arizona Cavalry web site! Herbert's Battalion was the only officially recognized Arizona Territory military unit raised for service in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Known by several names through out it's career; Herbert's Battalion, the Arizona Battalion, and later the Arizona Scouts. Many know about the company histories early in the New Mexico Campaign as separate companies under commands of George M. Frazer, Sherod Hunter and Thomas Helm, but very little people realize that the three companies served as the nucleolus of the Arizona Battalion. These men, at least what was left of them, served through the end of the war surrendering with the Trans-Mississippi forces in Texas in May of 1865 . This purpose of this web site is to keep the story of the Arizona Battalion alive and recognize the men from Arizona Territory and their contribution to the Civil War.
